This is hands-down the tastiest southern pea I’ve eaten. As a “conch” pea, it is often grouped with other cream peas, named for the lack of a black “eye” as well as for making a tasty cream-colored pot liquor. But only many southern peas that get a little mushy after cooking, fresh-shelled seeds from this variety retain a wonderful firm toothsome texture that is memorable and addictive. Flavor is mild and buttery, free of the earthiness present in most southern peas. Seeds are tiny, like perfect round pearls. You may want to invest in a pea sheller if you grow many of these! Pods are short (4-6 inches) and borne upright above the plants which are bushy with only a few thin vines, and they ripening over an extended period. This variety likely came to Florida from the West Indies around 1905. Seeds produced in Morgantown, WV. 65-80 days from sowing to harvest. Germination 99% 11-22-2023.
