Genuine Cornfield Heirloom Pole Bean Seeds

I’m offering this bean for historical reasons, even though it wasn’t my favorite bean in the kitchen! It’s nearly impossible to know how this variety looked centuries ago, as mutations and accidental crosses can shift the appearance over time if careful selection is not done every year. But this variety originated with the Iroquois natives and has been cultivated since pre-Columbian times. Interestingly, it is one of the parental varieties of the Blue Lake bean varieties.It is known to be suited to growing amongst maize, climbing up the stalks in a three-sisters growing design. However, I found the vines to be enormous such that they would likely cause the corn to fall over with the weight! However, it is also a very late bean, so perhaps it can clamber on the corn after it is fully grown and does not smother it when young. Pods are long and flattened and best picked young before seeds become plump. At this stage, it will still need de-stringed but it is not fibrous as when older.
