Candystick Dessert Delicata Winter Squash Seeds

This is the sweetest winter squash I have ever encountered! Bred to taste like Medjool dates, it has thick relatively dry flesh with a small seed cavity, unique among delicatas. Delicata squashes are gaining in popularity but not currently found in many stores. They are a type of Cucurbita pepo squash related to acorn or spaghetti squash but generally smaller with fine-textured flesh. They were popular in the early 20th century but lost popularity as ‘Butternut’ and other varieties became available. Vines are compact and more delicate than some winter squash. This variety produces an abundance of 2 lb fruits that keep quite well.I was lucky to have received parent seeds directly from breeder and author Carol Deppe when we met at a conference near her home in western Oregon.
