This rare bean is available nowhere else and has a unique flavor worth trying. Vines have medium vigor and produce an abundance of beans in mid-season. Pods are about 4.5 inches long and become full of plump white seeds when they are ready to pick. Flavor is unusual among all beans I’ve tried, very rich and meaty without a hint of sweetness which accentuates the umami flavor. The variety originated with the Sweiger family in Doddridge County, West Virginia who have maintained it for over 100 years. It was provided to me by Lewis Jett, WVU vegetable extension specialist. Seeds produced in Morgantown, WV. 70-75 days from sowing to harvest. Germination 90% 11-30-2024. 30 seeds
