I’m very excited about this bean because of the absolute beauty of its ruby-red seeds and its rarity. Seeds are shiny and nearly round, in addition to their deep red hue. They are in the category of Appalachian beans known as “fall beans”, since they are harvested late and usually have tough pods. They are meant to be eaten as fresh-shelled beans, or dried for winter cooking like a borlotti or cranberry bean.Vines are moderately vigorous and bear more heavily than some shelling beans. They require a trellis or teepee for support. Pods ripen approximately 4 months after sowing.Seeds produced in Morgantown, WV. Germination 90% 11-4-2024. 30 seeds (sows 10 ft row).
