Mountaineer Half-runner Bean (30 Seeds)

Also called ‘Old Dutch Half-runner’, this is a popular half-runner bean that is very early and prolific. Flavor is not quite as rich or meaty as some other half-runners and may be slightly bitter but still delicious. Pods were the easiest to detach from the plant in a comparative study I helped perform among 20 heirloom beans and are borne in clusters of 2-4. Like all half-runner beans, the 4.5 in. pods should be picked after the seeds are plump. They require destringing and are best cooked slow for 30 minutes. Vines are best grown on a trellis but are not nearly as rambunctious as pole beans and may also be allowed to form a mound of foliage with no support. Resistant to bean mosaic virus.
