Schönbrunner Gold Groundcherry Cape Gooseberry (Physalis peruviana) (100 Seeds)

I think this is a plant every gardener should grow! It’s pest and drought resistant and bears the most delicious snacking fruits to nibble while you tend your garden! It does get a bit large, growing to 3-4 feet, but branches and leaves are soft and fuzzy and the flowers and lantern-like husks are quite ornamental. Best provided with a short stake to tie the rangy branches to, it is also suitable for a container 12 inches or more in diameter. Germinate seeds indoors like tomatoes and transplant 1-3 feet apart after frost. Plants grow slowly until warm weather and produce the first fruit in 60-80 days, bearing steadily until frost.Large harvests in late summer can be turned into jelly or pie. Fruits average 3/4-1 inch in diameter and ripen to golden orange with a complex tropical sweet flavor much better than P. pruinosa groundcherries.
