Ground Squirrel Heirloom Half-runner Bean (30 seeds)

Ground Squirrel is a very early heirloom half-runner bean with pretty seeds striped like a chipmunk (ground squirrel) and pink flowers! A very reliable performer, it is an excellent choice to be grown at the base of corn in a traditional three-sisters planting, as it does not vine too much and overwhelm the corn. Grows 3-5 ft tall when supported on a trellis but may be grown without support by allowing the vines to grow into a mound. Curved pods grow 5 inches long and are blushed with pink, esp at the tips. They are slightly fibrous and require destringing but are still delicious with a rich meaty flavor when picked when seeds are lumpy and cooked slow. Dry beans are also exceptionally meaty and rich although dry bean yields do not approach that of ‘Coal Camp’. Approx. 50 days from seed to harvest.
