When I first grew this variety, I was unimpressed because the variety had been contaminated by dull, ordinary-looking beans and only a few were greasy. However, after I selected the greasy plants and grew them another year, I was absolutely blown away by the exceptional quality of this variety!Pods are slick and waxy, greasier than any variety I’ve seen. They are also very plump pods instead of being flat and lumpy like many greasy beans. Yields are late but heavy. Flavor is outstanding, tender, rich, and sweet. When you save seeds, be sure to remove any non-greasy pods that may remain in the variety so you can continue this excellence for years into the future.Like most heirloom beans, pick when pods are full of plump seeds, string them, and cook slow for 30 minutes, ideally with fatback.Seedstock originally obtained from the Sustainable Mountain Agriculture Center. 90 days from seed to harvest. Seeds produced in Morgantown, WV. 30 seeds (sows 10 ft row).
