This variety is a 19th century heritage variety from Italy and has a heavily-ribbed shape. Many varieties of that era, like the “Spanish” tomatoes that Thomas Jefferson mentions growing, had that ribbed trait. My favorite thing about this variety, besides the excellent flavor, is how flattened the fruit is. I find I can pop it whole in my lunch bag and split it in two halves which fit perfectly on sandwiches with no extra slices or discarded ends! Also wonderful for sauce and cooking. Flavor is usually described as intense and acidic. Typically 6-8 oz but can be smaller under less ideal conditions. Not prone to cracking or blossom end rot, small blossom scar. 4-6 ft tall, indeterminate. 60-70 days from transplant to fruit. Seed produced in Morgantown, WV. Germination 92% 11-22-2023. 30 seeds
