Also known as cucamelon (Melothria scabra), this dainty vine produces loads of delicious fruits as big as your thumb. Flavor is like cucumber when young and becomes more sour like pickles as it matures. Rind is never tough but pleasantly chewy. Vines are pest and disease resistant. They prefer a short trellis to clamber up but also grow well on the ground. Fruits are wonderful for garden snacking (kids love them!) but also make great pickles or an addition to a vege tray. Originating in Mexico and central America, they enjoy warmth but are drought tolerant. Direct seed or transplant. 55 days from transplant to first fruit. Open pollinated. Seeds produced in Morgantown, WV. Germination 95% 12-11-2023. 30 seeds
