This heirloom pole bean variety produces meaty, rich-tasting green beans about 6 inches long on vigorous vines. They are traditionally picked when the seeds have swelled but the pod is still tender, and slow-cooked for melt-in-your-mouth delicious flavor. They require de-stringing but the pods are thick and easy to pick. Favorite of a taste testing panel of 20 heirloom beans and very attractive cooked. This is a later-maturing variety with moderate yields and stands out to me for the large delicious pods and beautiful speckled seeds. The name comes from an old story which says a hunter discovered this variety as a bean lodged in the crop of a wild turkey. Seeds produced in Morgantown, WV from original seedstock maintained by Betty Flanagan of Randolph Co, West Virginia. 75-85 days from seed to harvest. Germination 95% 10-27-2023.
