Introduction
Rose Mallow (Lavatera trimestris), also known as Tree Mallow, is a charming heirloom annual prized for its large, hibiscus-like blooms in shades of pink, white, and purple. Ideal for borders, cottage gardens, and cut-flower arrangements, this fast-growing plant adds vertical interest, vibrant color, and long-lasting blooms to any landscape. Hardy and easy to cultivate, Rose Mallow attracts pollinators and provides ornamental beauty throughout the growing season.
Seed Sowing Instructions
Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost or sow directly outdoors after the danger of frost has passed. Soak seeds for 12–24 hours before planting to improve germination. Sow seeds ¼ inch deep in warm, well-drained seed-starting mix. Germination typically occurs within 7–14 days. Transplant seedlings outdoors when strong, spacing plants 12–18 inches apart.
Plant Care Instructions
Grow in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly to maintain even moisture but avoid waterlogged conditions. Mulch around plants to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds. Fertilize lightly to support healthy growth and abundant flowering. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering and maintain plant health. Rose Mallow is drought-tolerant once established.
