Probably the most common pickling pepper, this plant tolerates cool weather, making it a favorite in the North. The fruit also has a satisfying color palette, starting pale green to bright yellow to orange and ripening to bright red. There is considerable confusion between this variety and related peppers like Sweet Banana plus variation between different strains too! I found this strain to be sweet and crunchy at all stages with most of the heat confined to the seeds and pith. It was good eaten along with a meal to provide spice but too hot to eat on its own. Pickled however, it was incredibly beautiful and just the perfect mild spice for a crunchy side to a meal! Fruits were about 5.5 in x 1.5 in. Plants are very prolific and should be provided short stakes to prevent flopping on the ground with weight of fruit. 60 days from transplant to pale yellow fruit, up to 90 days for bright red. Strain originally obtained from Johnnys’ Selected Seeds. Seeds produced in Morgantown, WV. Germination 99% 12-25-23.
