Cut-short beans are one of my favorite types because of how incredibly meaty they are. And this variety is my new favorite of the cut-shorts! All the varieties I sell have their own unique features – Logan County Greasy Cut-short is primitive, Small Speckled Greasy Cut-short is beautiful, Humphrey Cut-short is mellow and delicious. But this variety is all of these! I love how plump the short 4 in. pods are and how they turn pink when it’s time to pick. And the way they are perfectly tender after de-stringing and simmering for 30 minutes, with a delectable rich flavor. This variety is also amazingly productive even as a dry soup bean, producing huge seed yields even in a very difficult year of insects and humidity. It is another bean from Kentucky, found as a mutation in another variety called ‘River Bean’. 69 days from sowing to harvest. Seeds produced in Morgantown, WV. Germination 99% 11-30-2024.
