This is a unique bean rarely grown in the USA and completely different than half-runner beans that are common beans with shorter vines. Runner beans are popular in the UK and some other locations because they thrive in mild climates. Sometimes they fail to set pods in summer due to daylength and temperature requirements. In an attempt to address this, a large number of varieties were combined to form this diverse population by the wonderful folks at Adaptive Seeds in Oregon. I have spent two seasons adapting it to my mid-Atlantic conditions and it has performed well.Large showy flowers in red, pink, and white are insect-pollinated, allowing this bean to intercross somewhat more than common beans. Pods average 6-8 inches and are wide and thick and should be harvested before seeds swell, at which stage they are stringless. Vines require a trellis or teepee for support. Seeds are much larger than common beans and can make great dry beans too. 70-90 days from seed to fresh harvest. Seeds produced in Morgantown, WV in 2024 season. 30 seeds
