Salal, a versatile evergreen shrub native to the western regions of North America, is recognized for its ornamental appeal, edible fruit, and ecological benefits. Thriving in a range from full sun to full shade, this plant can adapt to both dry and moist soil conditions. In shaded environments, it tends to grow larger and is an excellent choice for erosion control or as an understory shrub. Salal’s ability to form thickets makes it a vital habitat for wildlife, providing shelter and food to various birds and small animals during the fall when its berries mature. These dark blue, juicy berries are small, abundant, and can be consumed raw, dried, or used in jams and pies. The plant is also ornamental with its large, glossy leaves, often used in floral arrangements, and attractive pink and white bell-shaped flowers that bloom in clusters, drawing bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds throughout its flowering period.

Removed 1 star on shipping due to use of plastic in packaging.
These have a longer germination time, info on their seed packet was clear and appreciated. These are native to my area, and I look forward to eating the fruit, utilizing their soil retention properties, and have them spread through my undergrowth.
