Other: The Tasmanian Blue Gum is one of the world’s largest and fastest growing trees. They can grow up to 1’ a month, 50’ in 7 years, or 175’ in 24 years. There are also reports of trees that were over 200’ feet tall. This gum has evergreen leaves with a wonderful Eucalyptus fragrance and is completely pest and disease free. The many lovely flowers attract bees & butterflies, and over 100 species of birds use these Blue Gums. Squirrels and other small animals enjoy eating the seeds as well. They can tolerate salty coastal conditions, any type of soil, and dryness. As the name suggests, this tree is an Australian (Tasmanian) native. They were introduced to the USA in 1853 where they were grown for fuel (lumber). They also make such a good windbreak that thousands of miles of California coast were lined with these trees.
