Ocean Spray is an ornamental shrub native to the coastal regions of the western US and Canada. It is fast-growing and adapites well to shallow, rocky, or gravelly soil. Commonly found on slopes, it is beneficial for erosion control. The plant can withstand periods of dryness or excess moisture. It features small leaves and large, 5-inch long drooping clusters of flowers. Each cluster contains hundreds of small flowers that start white and turn reddish as they age, becoming more fragrant. The flowers and seeds both provide visual interest throughout the year and support a variety of wildlife. Birds, bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies are attracted to the blooms, with the plant also serving as a host for Swallowtail and Azure butterflies.
