Licorice Mint, native to Eastern Asia and recognized as one of the 50 fundamental herbs in traditional Chinese herbalism, features a licorice or anise fragrance. The sweet leaves are suitable for salads, making flavorsome teas, or as seasoning. These ‘cut and come again’ plants provide a continuous supply of leaves throughout the season. The plants are ornamental with a clumping habit and do not reseed or form rhizomes like some mints. The heart-shaped leaves develop a purple tint, complementing the purple flower spikes that attract honey bees for nectar. The fragrant and colorful flowers are ideal for cutting and drying.
