Introduction to Garden Huckleberry
The Garden Huckleberry, also known as Ground Cherry, is a delightful plant that produces purple berries. Scientifically named Solanum Melanocerasum, this bush is perfect for those looking to grow unique fruits in their garden.
Growing Conditions
These seeds thrive in USDA hardiness zones 3 to 7. They require average soil conditions, with good drainage, and prefer full sun exposure. To maximize growth, plant the seeds in the fall or cold stratify them for 1-2 months before planting.
Harvesting and Use
The Garden Huckleberry plants reach a height of 36-48 inches and should be spaced 24-36 inches apart. Blooming in spring, the berries mature around August to September, taking about 75-80 days to produce fruit. These berries must be cooked before consumption, making them perfect for pies with a taste similar to blueberries.
Benefits of Garden Huckleberry
Not only are these berries delicious, but they also do not stain like blueberries, making them easier to handle in the kitchen. With 100 seeds included, you’ll have plenty to cultivate and enjoy!
