Other: The Flowering Almond is an ornamental shrub to small tree, originally from China. It is popular for its stunning beauty and is well-suited for gardens or as a stand-alone specimen. It can be pruned for heavier blooming and trained into a single-trunked small tree. This plant makes an excellent bonsai specimen, is very cold tolerant, and can thrive in part shade or full sun. It requires moist but well-drained soil. Early in the spring, before the leaves appear, its branches are covered with double pink blossoms that attract bees and butterflies. By summer, the blossoms give way to bright red 1/2″ berries that attract birds and other wildlife. In the fall, the leaves turn vibrant shades of bronze and yellow.
