Description: The Desert Marigold is an heirloom flower native to the Southwest US and Mexico. These resilient desert plants thrive in environments with full sun and heat, and are well-suited to rocky, sandy, heavy clay, nutritionally poor, or dry soil. Featuring brightly colored yellow petals, Desert Marigolds add vibrant color to arid landscapes or serve as an ideal addition to beds, borders, rock gardens, or containers. The plant’s fuzzy, silvery foliage forms a neat clumping or mounding habit, with large 1-2 inch flowers on stalks rising above. Its bright yellow blooms begin in early March and continue through the fall. These nectar-rich blossoms attract bees and butterflies, while birds are drawn to the seeds in the winter. Being a larval host for the Desert Marigold Moth, the plant’s double-petaled “paper daisy” flowers are durable, maintaining their aesthetic appeal whether on the plant, as fresh cut flowers in a vase, or dried in arrangements. Note: Desert Marigold may be poisonous to sheep; however, horses and cattle are not typically affected.
