The name Catchfly refers to the sticky substance in the plant’s calyx that can trap small insects. The plants can tolerate shallow, rocky, or sandy soil. The large star shaped red flowers measure 2” wide and attract butterflies, including the Swallowtail. The flowers are pollinated by the ruby-throated hummingbird, featuring a 1” long calyx perfect for long beaks.
