Comfrey is originally native to Europe and Asia but has been introduced to North America. This herb is valued for its traditional herbal and medicinal uses. The plants exhibit a neat clumping habit with large fragrant leaves up to 8 inches long. The drooping clusters of rosy purple flowers are highly ornamental. Comfrey thrives in average to moist soil conditions and can tolerate some drought. It is adaptable to heavy soil types and is deer resistant. The plant can spread and reseed, making it suitable for naturalization, ground cover, borders, specimen planting, or container gardening.
