Other: The Smooth Sumac is a very ornamental shrub that is native to North America. Huge upright flower clusters measure 10″ long, and attract bees and butterflies. The Smooth Sumac is also a host plant for the Hairstreak Butterfly. The flowers turn into beautiful hairy crimson red berries in the fall, and they will stay on the bush through the winter. They make a wonderful cut flower for arrangements, or are great for holiday décor and crafts. Birds and small animals will also enjoy eating the berries but there will be plenty for everyone. The plants are dioecious, so both male and female plants are needed for pollination. Smooth Sumacs have huge ferny 18″ long leaves that turn lovely shades of yellow, orange, and red in fall.
