About this product:
The New Jersey Tea is a highly ornamental small shrub native to North America. It features numerous 2-inch clusters of white, funnel-shaped, fragrant flowers from May to July. These flowers are rich in nectar and attract hummingbirds, bees, including honey bees, and butterflies. It also serves as a host plant for butterflies. Adaptable to plains and prairies, the Ceanothus Americanus can endure drought and thrives in sandy or rocky soils. Despite not being a legume, it is capable of nitrogen fixation which can enhance soil fertility. This shrub gets the name “New Jersey Tea” because its leaves were used as a tea substitute during the Revolutionary War. It is also known as “Red Root” due to its sweetly scented red roots.
